Thank you for volunteering for the Chicago Tribune Printers Row Lit Fest! It takes many hands to bring the Midwest's largest literary event to Chicago, so on behalf of the Open Books and the Chicago Tribune, we thank you for your excitement and dedication to this event.



- Below you will find descriptions of all 10 various volunteer duties and jobs available for the weekend.



- Please choose the top 3 volunteer jobs that you would most like to do.



- On a first-come first- served basis, your requests will be considered and you will be selected for 1 job for each day of the Fest. Please choose Saturday, June 12, Sunday, June 13, or both dates. Please select only the dates for which you are certain you can volunteer. If you don't know your availability at this time, come back and fill out the form later...cancellations and changes are challenging when scheduling this many volunteers!



- The volunteer shifts will last from 8:30am - 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteer shifts may end earlier than 6pm; this will be determined the day of the event. Full details about check-in locations and procedures will be provided in June.



- Free lunch and a free t-shirt are provided for all volunteers!

- Volunteers are encourage to attend a Volunteer Orientation before the Fest. This is where you will get all the information about your volunteer role and meet the people you'll be joining at the event! Full details on the orientation will be provided in June.



AUTHOR ESCORT - Here is your opportunity to be a friendly and professional escort to the Fest's Author attendees. Roles include meeting the Author upon check in, walking the Author to their program venue, and answering questions as needed.



FLOATER – Like to make the rounds? General helpers are needed to help fill in with author programming, author signings, volunteer check in, etc. This is the job for the volunteer that likes to do many different things.



GOOD EATING TENT SUPPORT – Volunteers are needed to help hand out recipe cards, Good Eating Special Sections, and to help out with the signing and selling of books. Other duties include overseeing backstage/prep area for Good Eating stage, assisting chefs with prepping and light dishwashing, setting up demo table before each program, and serving as liaison between The Hearty Boys and chefs.



GREETER – Looking for a friendly, outgoing volunteer that is not shy to speak up and say, “Can I Help You?!” Volunteers will be welcoming people, directing people to the various programming rooms, helping answer questions about author check in, volunteer check-in, scheduling questions, etc.



KIDS' CORNER VOLUNTEERS – Looking for volunteers to have a blast with kids! There may be opportunities to read to kids, do coloring, play games, face paint, and help assist with the overall programming in the kids' area.Ever wanted to dress up as Barney, Big Bird or other large furry Costume Character? THIS is your chance! We are looking for four brave and fun souls to don Mascot/Character suits and/or be handlers and entertain the Fest's kids. Be sure to note this in your comments if this is the job you'd like!



OPERATIONAL SUPPORT – Interested in the bird's-eye view of the Fest? Strong, motivated volunteers are needed to replenish supplies, make deliveries, and help manage the overall Fest. You'll have access to a golf cart and get to see how everything works behind the scenes.



SIGNING AND SELLING SUPPORT – There will be many book signing sessions by authors throughout the course of the weekend. We are looking for volunteers that will assist in making the process run as smoothly as possible. Write "sign requests" and help the line move as quickly as possible.



TICKET COLLECTOR – Work the lines of guests at some of the Fest's biggest events! Check and collect tickets at the Harold Washington Public Library. Welcome and greet visitors, authors and VIP guests. Assist and fill in at the venue when necessary.



TICKET COORDINATOR - You'll be asked to check tickets, check in and escort VIP ticket holders, keep the lines moving, be a friendly and helpful guide if people have questions, etc., all at the Harold Washington Library. Keep people patient, not budging, etc.



VENUE COORDINATOR - This is a role with a lot of responsibility. Be in charge of programming rooms. Prepare and make sure microphones are working properly, get water for authors or program hosts. Will have to stand up in front of large group of people and give an introduction of an author or program. General event troubleshooting will be needed, must be able to handle a lot of things at once. Will report to the Venue Manager.
