Diverse children reading books

Exposing children to a diverse array of characters in literature affirms their own cultural identities and fosters positive insights about those who are different from them. 61% of low-income families have no books at all in their homes and the vast majority of children’s books contain only white characters. Open Books | Open Minds seeks to address both sides of this problem.

Purchase a selected set of 3 or 5 books featuring diverse characters and cultures for your early-grade children, and Open Books provides the same book bundles to children in the North Lawndale community.
