Open Books Brings West Loop Store to Pilsen with a Book Sale!

For years, Open Books West Loop has been a place to discover great reads, find old favorites, and spend time surrounded by books. We’re bringing that same love of books and discovery to Pilsen, building on a bookstore that already means so much to the community.

And we’re having a sale! From October 23 through November 8, enjoy 50% off books throughout the store at West Loop. It’s a great opportunity to get a head start on your holiday shopping, pick up a few gifts, or find books you’ve been meaning to read.

Sunday, November 8 will be our last day at 651 W. Lake Street. We hope you’ll stop by, find some wonderful books, and help us celebrate bringing together two bookstores that have been fueling our mission to uplift literacy in Chicago.

Why are we bringing the West Loop store to Pilsen?

We’ve experienced a decline in foot traffic at our West Loop store, further impacted by the ongoing CTA construction and Lake Street closure. Combined with the rising cost of operating within the Loop, we’ve decided to bring the West Loop store to our Pilsen location. This allows us to build on what makes both bookstores special while continuing to serve our customers and support our literacy mission.

What are we bringing to Pilsen?

We are bringing a curated selection of books that reflects the West Loop offering, while keeping the pay-what-you-want model and free children’s books that have been central to Pilsen.

Why Pilsen?

Pilsen is not far from our West Loop location, which makes it a natural place to bring the two bookstore experiences together.

Will Pilsen still offer free children’s books and pay-what-you-want adult books?

Absolutely! Children’s books will continue to be free, and adult books will remain pay-what-you-want.

We’re also introducing a curated selection of books from our West Loop store, which will retain West Loop’s affordable pricing. It’s another way we’re bringing together what makes both bookstores special and continuing our focus on Open Books’ literacy mission.
